Chinese New Year

Hong Bao

To celebrate Chinese New Year’s, my family decided to host a small party, inviting old friends to come and celebrate. Now, the adults were of course occupied by cards and talking and such; however, us teenagers and children were stuck without anything to do. What we ended up doing was rather interesting.

We started out by watching a movie, because it would burn a decent amount of time. So we watched “The Invention of Lying”, a movie about a man who discovers how to lie in a world where people can only speak the truth and nothing but the truth. I thought the movie was pretty good, but there was an implication that I didn’t quite like in the movie. Partway through, the protagonist says, “What happens after death is written on these pizza boxes”, and thereafter goes on to describe 10 rules that would allow people to go to “a place where everyone has a mansion”. This was an obvious reference to the Ten Commandments that God has set forth for us to follow. The analogue in the story was “The Man In The Sky”. That wasn’t too bad, but then at the end, the main character says, “there is no Man In The Sky”. God Exists. EOM.

After that we tried to figure out something to do, but some adults (cough, cough) had invaded our section of the house, so the few things we could think of were out. We ended up having a small Nerf war, which was decently fun. I must say, it was amusing to watch people try to use an 80% broken Maverick and win. Of course, being that there were more people than there were guns, there was a blowgun in usage, and thrown darts counted.

=)

Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

screenshot

I went over to my friend’s house for a sleepover yesterday (today?) and he introduced me to COD4. I must say that it is an experience to be able to run a semi-graphically intensive game at native resolution (1280×800). I guess the 9300m GS really does help with rendering – even if it maxes around 40fps. The server I’m using is cod4.serverbob.net:28960, which has a pretty low latency. However, since I am not used to COD-style controls and the way the game works, I tend to be pretty bad at it. Hopefully over this break I can improve. At the very least, the graphics are pretty xD. Perhaps I should go and see if some other games run (I highly doubt MW2 does, but I can hope, can’t I?).

Internet Exploder 6

I was browsing Smashing Magazine today, and I saw this:

Internet Exploder

I do think that it is a perfect description of Internet Exploder 6, from conception to its (hopefully coming) death. By the way, if you view this page in IE6, it will immediately crash. Just FYI.

Only One More Day Until Break

Today’s Thursday.
Tomorrow’s Friday.
The day after? BREAK!

Break is fast approaching us, a week of no school and less homework. A break in the monotony of school life, it comes as a welcome relief, allowing us to go out and experience some new things. Of course, seeing as break isn’t quite here yet, there’s still more to do.

Teachers have an annoying tendency to think alike; meaning that many have decided to place their tests on Friday (tomorrow). Personally, I have Chemistry, Computer Science, Literature, and History to study for – and I’m sure others have more. I think that if they had been distributed over the week, I would be much more relaxed.

Tomorrow is also the day that the Epic comes out with a new issue. I wonder what surprises it will hold this time around, be they interesting articles or amusing typos. My friends in Epic have no doubt been working hard during “Production Week”, so we’ll be seeing the results of their effort soon.

This break is going to be busy for me – I’ve got plenty of things to do, including leading T453 through Bearpaw snows to studying and working ahead for various classes.

Sophomore Guidance Night

I wasn’t able to go to Sophomore Guidance Night because of a coinciding Troop 453 Committee Meeting. If my assumptions are correct, it was like this:

  1. De Anza is OK
  2. Don’t take many AP classes
  3. Don’t participate in many clubs
  4. GOTO(1)

On another note, at the committee meeting, we had this interesting little chocolate shaped like a mushroom:

mushroom-chocolate

The darker part to the left is chocolate, the lighter is some sort of biscuit stick thing. And yes, its slightly gimped because i had to take my finger out of the picture (Took it with a built in laptop webcam)
