Summertime

As the end of summer approaches, it makes me think about what I’ve done (or haven’t done) over this summer. I spent most of my time on my internship at Cypress… which has been an awesome experience. Unfortunately, as a result of actually being busy, I haven’t gotten much else done this summer. I am almost done with summer homework, and most likely will be by tomorrow, but the “Viking” day is just a few days off – and a week later, school. I don’t know if I’m prepared for it… not the studies, but having to adhere to a schedule that is not set by myself (even work is paid hourly… I go early to get more stuff done and get paid more, not because I absolutely have to).

Also, as a culmination of the summer, my sister is leaving from China on Monday and arriving at SFO on Monday, so we’re going to go and pick her up. Yesterday, I also managed to get my driver’s permit, which was quite easy, actually. It was kind of interesting – they accidentally gave me the 18+ driver’s license test, which I passed, then they made me take the normal permit test, which I passed too. My lesson is arranged for next Sunday… the day before school!

About 15 minutes ago I got my first debit card… Not sure what I’m going to do with it, as most of its features are also present in Paypal, and Paypal is more safe to use, as I don’t expose my bank account directly.

West Valley College

Today I was able to go to WVC to register for concurrent enrollment in the fall. My two possible courses are Math 4A and Physics 4A, both of which are useful classes. Luckily, I get to skip the assessment test because of AP scores (Calc BC is Math 3A, Compsci is CS 4A)

I also received my Lamy Safari in the mail – its a nice pen, albeit not as fountainy as I expected.

A Weekly Post

I haven’t had much to say this past week, and so haven’t posted anything. At work, I’ve been doing some new things – both in the lab and on my computer. On the note of the computer, my Dell Vostro 1320 is now running on an external monitor kindly donated by my father, and my Thinkpad X60s seems to have become my primary device. The external monitor is big – bigger than any I’ve owned before… 19″ or 20″, I can’t really tell. Of course, the big screen is a burden on the graphics card, but it deals, albeit a little slower than before.

Laptop Screen Broken

My laptop screen was broken today at work, sadly. I had left it in the lab… and then came back and found the screen broken. Lacking an extra external monitor for work, I had to resort to using my extra laptop, a Thinkpad x60s. I guess I’ll deal, since I can still access the data on the laptop – the only thing seriously damaged was the screen.

Leaving for Philmont… Goodbye for two weeks

I’m leaving for Philmont in less than 12 hours. It’ll be one of two things: An exciting and adventurous trip in the mountains, or a miserable 60-mile hike in the rain. There’s an obvious better option there, but who knows if it’ll actually happen. Likelihood is a mix of the two, (un)fortunately.

I’ll be in New Mexico very soon… without any internet access or electronics (excluding a flashlight or three), and likely very tired. The plane flight’s departure time necessitates that we leave SJ at around 3:45AM, a rather ridiculous time to wake up; therefore, I’ll probably just stay up until then. We’re going to be flying for 4 hours – much fun, si?

I’m apparently required to keep a “journal” about the trip, which will be written in bad cursive and worse print… Since I will be unable to decipher it, I’ll just scan the paper and upload it for you guys to read.

Two weeks.
Eight people
Five tents
Too many mountains

hasta la vista
